Resistance frequencies may vary within a hospital

A recent study from the Netherlands indicated that resistance rates may differ between hospital departments or patient risk groups [J Antimicrob Chemother 2015;70:2894-8]. Primary Aspergillus fumigatus cultures from hematology and ICU were investigated for azole resistance, and azole resistance was found in 16.2% of cultures from hematology patients, while the frequency in ICU-patients was only 4.5%.​
